WF2 Vicks Humidifier Replacement Filter Review

WF2 Vicks Humidifier Replacement FilterI purchased a cool mist humidfier with the idea of putting the humidity back in the air as we all suffer from allergies. The humidfier is great, however the filters are dreadful!Within 3 weeks I had to replace the wicking filter because of the mold.Blech...Had I known I was going to be replacing the filters every 3 weeks, I'd of purchased a case of them right off the jump. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

Hunter 33252 CareFree Humidifier Plus with Exclusive Nite Glo Night Light Review

Hunter 33252 CareFree Humidifier Plus with Exclusive Nite Glo Night LightI've gone though a lot of humidifiers, both hot and cold. Most of them either stop working after a year or two, or get so corroded or mildewed that you have to get rid of them. The Hunter humidifier doesn't corrode or get mildew, you can wash the pieces, especially the Permawick filter in the dishwasher, it lasts over 48 hours of constant running on high (over 72 hours on low), and has a nice little blue light that lights through the water, which gives a nice softening touch.I've now gotten one for each bedroom in my house, and am extremely happy with this product.

Lasko 1128 9-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating Humidifier Review

Lasko 1128 9-Gallon Evaporative Recirculating HumidifierI have the predecessor that was black in color. It's 3 years old and still works great.Definitely evaporates lots of water into the air.The reservoir must be filled 2 to 3 times per day depending on how often your furnace comes on.It's somewhat of a chore but I get used to it.Keeping the household humidity at 60% or better surely makes lower thermostat settings tolerable so it's a money saver in that regard. The unit uses about 100 watts during its intermittent runs.

Mine is so accurate that it is almost perfectly synchronized to furnace operation.Furnace comes on and shortly thereafter the Lasko humidifier starts up.Furnace shuts off and shortly thereafter the humidifier shuts off.I presume the same accuracy is maintained in this newer white model.

These do use disposable paper filters.I use 2 per season.Cheapest source for the filters is direct from Lasko.I bought a box of 10 for $50 right after I bought the humidifier and I've got about 5 filters left.Even if you throw away about half of them, you'll save money compared to single filter prices at brick and mortar stores. The shipping was free at the time.Maybe it still is.

Humidifiers require periodic maintenance. These Lasko's are no exception. Each year, I sit the thing in the bathtub and fill it's reservoir with vinegar/water and let it run about 30 minutes. This dissolves or loosens the mineral deposits. After rinsing, I then fill it with a bleach/water solution and let it run about 30 minutes to kill mold spores and dormant bacteria.

That yearly demineralizing/disinfecting is somewhat of a chore but I only have to do it once. That's enough to get me through the entire heating season.

All humidifiers require some maintenance--even the ones connected directly to your furnace.I've read operator's manuals for most every one of the furnace mounted units and some of the maintenance procedures are complex and labor intensive compared to the little bathtub routine I've developed for this Lasko.

When I think I will install a furnace mounted unit I search the internet and read the reviews and realize why I put up with this Lasko cleaning routine. Many of those furnace mounted units require demineralizing and disinfecting just like the Lasko--except that I can put the Lasko in a bathtub and keep the mess contained. If I had to rinse and clean a furnace mounted unit, I'd have to use a wet/dry vac to sop up the spillage all over the basement floor, I'm sure.On top of that mess, it seems that furnace mounted units die at an early age due to mineral deposits that can't be controlled.

When the temperatures drop to about 15°F or below, our furnace runs a lot.The more the furnace runs the more the Lasko humidifier runs.I'm sure I have to fill the removeable reservoir 3 times a day or more.It seems to be sized so that a full reservoir lasts about 8 hours. That's enough to get a full night's sleep.Actually, the removeable reservoir holds about 8 hours worth. There's another several gallons in the base to supply the unit with water so you can easily stretch it to 12-14 hours between fillings.I do it all the time. It's just that if you stretch it to 12 hours or more, you'll have to fill the removable reservoir 1.5 times to completely "fill 'er up" again.

All in all, I don't think I could live without a humidifier. We feel warmer, the children cough less while sleeping, there's no static electric sparks when we touch objects or each other ... it's worth the hassle, I think.

This unit says it will do a 3200 square foot home.I guess that's so, but, it's quite nicely sized for homes smaller than that because it won't have to run on high to do the job.Buying the biggest humidifier means you can run the fan on low so it's as quiet as possible.

Once a year I also take it apart to clean the dust from the fan blades and the vortex shroud. This isn't absolutely necessary but it makes it look new again.About 6 or 8 screws removed lets the thing come almost entirely apart for cleaning.

So, a humidifier takes some work no matter what type you get.For a household humidifier, I like this Lasko but I've also got a wife and kids to share in the task of refilling it 3 times a day.

I'm a home handy man so I'll be able to replace the motor in this thing when it goes bad.I don't think it will cost much.

Lasko sells parts and that's what I truly love!Unlike other companies, Lasko actually has parts available and they sell them at reasonable prices.

We use Lasko ventilation fans year round as a sleep aide to produce "white noise."I've got a remote controlled fan that I've come to depend on.After about 4 years of daily night time use, I needed a motor for it last year and, sure enough, Lasko sold one to me and the cost was about 1/3rd that of a new fan.

For the home do-it-yourselfer types, Lasko is the only way to go because they sell parts.Other companies, like Holmes, don't stock any parts at all.Once the complete Holmes unit comes from Taiwan or Sri Lanka toyour store's shelf, that's it--you can't get a part even if it was missing from the package before you bought it.

Lasko has a respectable warranty and they don't charge a fee.Holmes and other companies like them charge you a fee that they call "handling" just to get a warranty remedy. That "handling" fee is usually 2/3 or more the cost of a new fan.In other words, you have to pay to return the defective item to Holmes, you also have to pay that "handling fee", and then they might send you a replacement.Lasko doesn't do that.I think that they do require that you ship the item back to them at your cost.

This is a recirculating type of humidifier so it doesn't throw white dust all over everything. The other type of humidifier uses heat to evaporate water (like a distiller) and in the process, all of the minerals of the water become airborne grey-white dust.I don't like that idea. These recirculating types just trickle large quantities of water through a paper filter. The filter retains the minerals.

I remember as a kid, about 45 years ago, I used to sit on my grandmother's floor and enjoy the breeze from a "ottoman" style fan and it had the name "Lasko" on it.I used to think it had something to do with Alaska.I presume it's the same company--still making fans and things that circulate air.

Product Description:
Indoor air can get especially dry in the winter months, especially with heating systems in full force. This three-speed recirculating humidifier makes it easy to maintain personal comfort levels in multiple rooms or large living areas up to 3200 square feet. Water continuously circulates through the unit, which not only keeps the filter moist for clean, long-lasting performance, but also for increased efficiency, using the entire filter surface for maximum, evaporative-moisture output. Continuous circulation also eliminates standing water, helps remove water contaminants, and won't re-circulate airborne particles. A fan blows across the moist filter, allowing water to evaporate and disperse throughout the room as cool, clean, invisible moisture, without white dust or over-humidification. The humidifier offers a 4-1/2-gallon water capacity and provides a 9-gallon output-capacity per day. Other details include an adjustable humidistat, a removable water reservoir with dual handles for easy filling, an on/off indicator light, a patented cascading waterfall that shows it's working, and smooth-rolling castors for mobility on any surface. One evaporative filter pad (THF 8) comes included. The UL-listed humidifier measures approximately 22 by 14 by 17 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

The Sharper Image EV-HD15 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1.6-Gallon Humidifier with Clean Mist Technology Review

The Sharper Image EV-HD15 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1.6-Gallon Humidifier with Clean Mist TechnologyI recently purchased this humidifier at BBB and so far it is doing a good job. I wanted something that was quiet and didn't require replacement filters and I got it.

When adjusting the humidistat you can definitely see a change in the amount of mist on my machine. Many reviews talk about the demineralizing tablets and not knowing what to do with them. If you read the instruction manual it tells you at the end what to do with them. Fill your tank and drop them in. Depending if you have normal water you replace them every 3 months or so and if you have hard water they may need to be replaced more often.

If the light on the front of the machine is green you have enough water, if it turns red that means you need to add more water.

The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier with Clean Mist Technology Review

The Sharper Image EV-HD10 Cool Mist Ultrasonic 1-Gallon Humidifier with Clean Mist TechnologyWith winter upon us, my wife and I initially bought a standard humidifier that boils the water into a warm vapor. It worked well at getting the air "moist" and raising the temperature of the room a bit - but having to refill AND clean the thing on almost a daily basis was way too annoying. It also made a small, but decent amount of noise when the water was bubbling. In the end, the tank got a small crack which threw off the pressure, so it leaked everywhere.

Fast forward to our new Sharper Image humidifier.Filled up the tank, plugged it in, and instantaneous mist!I probably played with the thing for 5min - just amazed at the ultrasonic technology. There literally is just a tiny plate that vibrates with such a high frequency that it creates this misty, fog like stream of vapor. The different level settings work out well to - it's not a simply high, med, low - it's a turn dial so it's easy to get it at the exact output you're looking for. We've found that a mid-high level will keep the bedroom at a nice humidity and the tank lasts about 3-4 days (running only at night).Noise level is almost silent. The best part? The inside doesn't get a disgusting since it's ultrasonic - so no more daily cleaning! After a month of use I opened the thing up to scrub it down, and there was barely any residue or film to clean. The negatives? You will get the "white dust" around the room if you don't put demineralization tablets in a on monthly basis, and having a cool mist can be a little chilling in the winter until your heating catches up with it.All in all we highly recommend this humidifier.

The GOOD:
-Super quiet
-Tank lasts 3-4 days when run at night, med level
-Minimal to no cleaning required
-Keeps our air humid but not saturated
-Very customizable level
-Night light for the kids

The BAD:
-Need demineralization tablets or white dust becomes a problem
-Cool mist in winter is brisk
-Nasty green sticker on the front is ugly and takes time to take off

Vicks 1.5 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier Review

Vicks 1.5 Gallon Cool Mist HumidifierWe've had this humidifier for about 2 years now and use it only occasionally. The reason we use it sparingly is because it is way too loud. It has a very annoying vibrational noise that can be damped by pushing down hard on the lid.Since I can't stand next to it pushing the lid down all night, we have to put up with the amazingly loud humming. The other problem with this humidifier is that it is hard to clean inside the tube that draws-up the water. It is removable, but you need to have pipe-cleaners to get inside it. The non-removable disc in the lid is also filled with gunk that I can't get out. Save your money!

Holmes S1708 Bacteriostat for Cool Mist Humidifiers Review

Holmes S1708 Bacteriostat for Cool Mist HumidifiersFor several years we have used a large humidifier during the winter months.Despite frequent cleaning and care, we had to replace the humidifier filters every few weeks. We started using the Holmes Bacteriostat last winter and only had to replace the filter a single time, three-quarters of the way through the winter.

Follow the directions on the bottle and not only save money by not having to replace the humidifier filters as often, but it can also save you from breathing mold spores growing on an untreated filter (before the filter even looks like it needs changing).

Product Description:
The investment in a cool mist humidifier in hot, arid climates can provide protection from static electricity while improving respiratory functions and soothing eczema and parched houseplants. Despite the numerous positive attributes, using a humidifier may also produce some harmful results. Without proper care, the humidifier becomes the breeding ground for assorted viruses, bacteria, algae, and mold. In other words, the soothing moisture released by humidifier may endanger household members more than heal them in the long run. Luckily, regular humidifier cleaning and filter replacement eliminates the spread of these unwanted elements. To stop bacteria growth in cool mist humidifiers, Holmes Products developed this Bacteriostat solution.
The 32-ounce bottle contains various chlorides to effectively kill bacteria and algae. Suited portable and stationary cool mist humidifiers alike, the bacteriostat should not be used for treating warm mist humidifiers. As with all chemical cleaners, read all safety guidelines with care prior to use and keep away from flammables and children. The bottle measures 9.25 by 3.13 by 2.94 inches and weighs 1 pound upon shipping.

Germ Guardian H2000 Manual Ultrasonic Humidifier Review

Germ Guardian H2000 Manual Ultrasonic HumidifierThe Germ Guardian H-2000 is the best ultrasonic humidifier I've seen in a decade. But that only means that it works. The humidifier is well-crafted but thoughtlessly designed. I was pleased with a couple of ultrasonics that I had years ago. When their motors eventually died and I needed replacements, I found that ultrasonic humidifiers had all but disappeared from the market by the mid-1990s. So I bought evaporative humidifiers instead. The trouble with evaporatives is that they require a wick, which molds easily and pervasively and must be replaced at least every two weeks. That's expensive. It costs me $150 per year to run each of my evaporative humidifiers. I'd rather have ultrasonics, which are less prone to mold, less expensive to operate, and quieter. When ultrasonic humidifiers reappeared on the market a few years ago, I bought some....and returned them all. They broke within weeks and left puddles on the floor.

This brings me to the Germ Guardian H-2000. If you want an ultrasonic humidifier that isn't fit for the trash, you have to pay more than $100. This H-2000 seems to be well-made. Happily, you can set it directly on the floor if you like. I have run it for days sitting on hardwood, and the floor is not even damp. There are little compartments for storing the power cord and for the air filter. A small brush is provided for cleaning the inside of the unit, though I don't know what use it would be. The humidifier barely makes a sound. The controls are straightforward. You choose cool or warm mist, then turn the humidity dial to the level of output you desire. A blue LED lights when the power is on, and a red LED indicates when the tank needs refilling. I've never had any trouble with white dust from this humidifier.

On the downside, the 1.4 gallon tank has a handle only on top, so it is difficult to balance the tank to fill it from the bottom. It's also rounded on top, so you can't set the tank down to fill it either. Remember the days when all humidifier tanks were flat on both ends and had a handle on each for ease of filling? No more. Usually ultrasonic humidifiers are easy to clean if they should mold, because all the innards are exposed. But the H-2000 has an optional warm mist, so water passes through a concealed channel as it goes from the tank to the vibrating disc, where it is presumably exposed to heating coils. You could run ammonia through the channel to kill mold, but there would be no way to remove slime. The tank is infused with silver nanoparticles to retard microbe growth, but machine's body isn't. Strange, because mold growth in humidifiers never starts in the tank. The on/off knob would benefit from some ridges. It's so smooth that I can't grip it unless my hands are perfectly dry.

The Germ Guardian H-2000 takes 30 hours to empty the 1.4 gallon tank with the humidifier set on its highest output. That's an output of 0.047 gallons of water per hour. My evaporative humidifiers put 0.083 gallons per hour into the air, nearly twice as much. For this reason, the H-2000 is best suited to a small bedroom, placed close to the bed. In the "warm" mode, the water is heated to 80 degrees F. The mist is warm in the base, the column (spout guide), and where it comes out of the spout. But by the time it gets a couple of inches from the machine, the mist is cool. So I see little point in the warm mist feature. If you want an ultrasonic humidifier, I won't try to dissuade you from this one. In spite of its deficiencies, it's the best one I've found in recent years. But it's only suitable for small rooms.

Vornado MD1-0002 Humidifier Wicks Review

Vornado MD1-0002 Humidifier WicksThese humidifier filters are as cheap as they get and lasts forever! We live in the Southwestern desert and our family members all have naturally dry skin so our humidifiers practically run year around (one in each bedroom, 365 nights a year).I only need to replace these filters about twice a year because, every month, I soak them in vinegar to remove the hard water deposits. This keeps the filters supple and able to absorb/output more moisture into the air.Don't buy the cheap "fakes" on eBay; get the original Vornado filters; they'll last a whole lot longer than the "fakes".Love the Vornado humidifiers too -- easiest to use and clean!

Graco 1.5 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier Review

Graco 1.5 Gallon Cool Mist HumidifierAs a child growing up, I always had the impeller type humidifiers in which a spinning tube would draw water inside of it and then toss it out in a visible mist. While these could be quite effective, they had the drawback of being loud and soaking everything around them.

When my daughter was born, we got an ultrasonic humidifier. The mist was a little finer, but again, it had the tendency to soak everything around it, and created scale on itself and its surroundings with tap water.

So this time I decided to go with the evaporative type of humidifier. With these, a fan draws moisture out of a wick filter that is then disbursed about the room. These types of humidifiers have the advantage of being self-regulating because evaporation is quicker in a dry room, slower in a moist room. They also trap the minerals and bacteria that may be in the water in the filter instead of spraying them in the room. The disadvantages are that they require costly filters, and you have to treat the water to keep bacteria, mold, and scale from building up on the filter and components. Both of these can be achieved with the addition of a few drops of humidifier treatments that can be found at your local Wal-Mart.

With all this in mind, I did lots of comparison shopping and finally turned to the Graco 1.5 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier. This compact unit appears to be much more durable than other brands at a similar price point, and since its components are dishwasher safe, it is much easier to give it a thorough cleaning. Although the unit could be considered loud, especially on its high setting, the low setting is quite pleasant to me, and provides a nice white noise to counteract background sounds. Most importantly, it does a good job of raising the humidity into comfortable levels during the winter. And with the water appropriately treated, there is NO mold on my filter and minimal mineral deposits.

Note: this is advertised as a "baby" humidifier, but its shape and design fit as well as any other humidifier in any room of your house. We bought two.One for our bedroom, the other for my daughter.

Essick Air D46 720 4-Speed Tower Humidifier, Titanium Charcoal Review

Essick Air D46 720 4-Speed Tower Humidifier, Titanium CharcoalOverall, this is a great humidifier.

SIZE: The tower shape of the unit makes it perfect for environments where there is more wall space to consume than floor space. It's fairly large: as a point of reference, it rises a little higher than the arms of my living room sofas and it's rectangular shape is about the size of a magazine, plus about 1.5" on each side for the two tanks.

CONTROLS: The digital controls makes it pretty easy to operate. It's a simple, two-button interface with an easy-to-read display. The automatic humidistat can be set from 25-65% (at 10% intervals). The current and desired humidity level are shown side-by-side on the display using indicator bars. When set a desired humidity level, the automatic humidistat will run the unit until the current humidity reading is 10% higher than your preference, then turn it off until the current reading drops to 10% lower than your preference. This is a pretty nice feature - it saves power and conserves water so you don't have to refill the reservoirs as frequently. You can also choose to run the unit continuously by not setting a preferred humidity level.

FAN NOISE: There are four fan speeds. The first three speeds are all very quiet and wouldn't be disruptive (or even noticeable) in most settings. The fourth and highest setting is more noticeable, sounding something like a microwave oven but slightly softer and quieter. It might be enough to make you turn up the TV a little while watching the news, but really no worse than that.

DISPLAY: The display also has a green power indicator and a red indicator to let you know when both reservoirs are empty (the unit will stop when this is the case until at least one reservoir is refilled). I did find it kind of odd that the product uses LED bars to display the humidity levels and two-digit numeric readout for the fan speed (even though the highest speed setting is only 4). It almost seems to me that these should be reversed, but that doesn't really reduce the effectiveness of the unit and the interface is still pretty easy to read and use as designed.

SETUP & USE: The unit is fairly easy to setup and maintain. The two wick units and the plastic grill covers that enclose them can be a little cumbersome when snapping them in and out of place. This is not a particularly big problem, since the wick units only need to be replaced at the beginning of each season to avoid mineral buildup.

The two reservoirs, on the other hand, are very easy to remove and replace while the unit is operating. Each is the full height of the unit and about 2 inches thick with a simple click-latch fixing them snugly to the unit's sides. Despite their large and odd shape, they're surprisingly easy to fill even at a small bathroom sink. They each can hold a little more than their rated 1.5 gallons when topped off and the fill-caps hold this amount without leaking. The instructions say that the water level in these tanks is "easily visible" from the sides. The water level can be seen from the sides, but I wouldn't describe it as "easily"; the dark tint makes it pretty difficult to see from any distance. I often have to gently rock the unit a little to find the surface of the water move before I can judge.

When this unit is running continuously at full speed, it can run through both reservoirs twice in a single day (that two times each, or 6 gallons total). Unless your environment is *extremely* dry, I think that's about the max. With more practical and conservative settings, they only need to be filled every 2-4 days, which is a much more relaxed refill schedule to keep.

The unit does work well even for larger, dryer spaces. You'll be able to notice an immediate difference in the air near the humidifier as soon as you start it, and the effect radius grows pretty quickly - especially on the highest speed setting.

SUMMARY: All in all, this is a nice multi-room humidifier that looks good, fits easily, works well and is easy to operate with a nice feature set for it's price range.

Venta Airwasher LLC 1000436 Ultrasonic Humidifier Review

Venta Airwasher LLC 1000436 Ultrasonic HumidifierWOW! Finally one that WORKS and doesn't wake the neighbors!

We have been through just about every type/brand of humidifier in our quest for the perfect one over the last 15 years. So when I pressed the "on" switch on our new "Venta Sonic VS205" I knew our quest was finally over. Out came an unbelievable "fog cloud" of humidity that gently wafted over the room. Later as the humidity level rose - monitored by the nifty LCD readout on the front - the unit suspended "cloud formation" and waited patiently until the room percentage had dropped below the set level and then resumed.

Pros::

1) Absolutley soundless!!! Many of the other brands worked fine but were so noisy we couldn't sleep.
2) Runs at least 24 hours on a fill (depending on what level you set it on - ours is 45% - 50%)
3) Instant gratification - monitors the humidity level in your room - not many actually do this - you just have to guess and never really know - so this is big.

Cons:

1) The only one - it's a bit tricky to fill. Have to turn the tank upside down and unscrew the filter. As an Industrial Designer I could come up with at least 3 better ways to do this - one being simply have another fill cap on the top. But this is really not a problem since the unit has so many other admirable features (AND - you only have to do this once a day!!)

Aprilaire 35 Replacement Humidifier Water Pad Review

Aprilaire 35 Replacement Humidifier Water PadYou can spend $$$ to have your heating and cooling people come replace your humidifier filter, or you can buy this and do it yourself.

The box has clear instructions and it takes zero intelligence. It's about as hard as cleaning the lint filter in your dryer- the difference is you just toss out the old filter and replace with the new, obviously. From start to finish, it takes about three and a half minutes.

You should replace this filter no less often than once a year.

Westinghouse WDD100 Ultrasonic Humidifier with Aromatherapy, 8-1/2-Ounce Tank Review

Westinghouse WDD100 Ultrasonic Humidifier with Aromatherapy, 8-1/2-Ounce TankThis is one of the most stylish humidifiers out there and I got it mainly for its aesthetics. It is great for light humidifying for a small room and the aroma sample that comes in the package is pleasant smelling. The light transitions smoothly from color to color and is really pretty. Maybe it's just me but it also makes a comforting butterfly-like pattern on the ceiling when the lights are off. I think it would be great in a child's room as it can serve as a night light in a way!

Holmes HM495-UC Ultrasonic Medium-Room Humidifier Review

Holmes HM495-UC Ultrasonic Medium-Room HumidifierI've owned this humidifier for over a year now and I am in the process of looking for it on sale to replace all my other ones in the home. It's filterless so I haven't had to worry about moldy smells or finding a filter in the middle of winter at ridiculous prices.Anywho, this one is in my kids' room and I keep it at a low setting and it gives off this soft hum that actually drowns out other home noises.I fill it up every third day and I haven't had problems with water spilling or any other malfunction (like I've read in other reviews).Once a month I clean the base with a clorox wipe and I'm set.I also add an anti microbial solution (from Kaz)every time I refill it and it helps keep it clean and odorless.

Hamilton Beach True Air 05920 Blue Humidifier Filter Review

Hamilton Beach True Air 05920 Blue Humidifier FilterFirst - the reviewers that recount experiences of bad smells from their filters need to undrstand that wick humidifiers, like the HB 05920 and 05921, require that an anti-bacterial solution be added to the water tank when filling. This solution, I use "Golden Solution" (try Google), prevents mold and algae from forming on the filter and in the tank. This prevents the odors and gets you a couple months out of your filter if you run your unit 24/7 like me.

Second - there are other replacement filters on the market that are the same size as the HB True Air replacement filter and cost half as much.

I use two HB True Air humidifiers and usually stock up on 4 filters each for the 6 months they run continously in my loft.I have a couple True Air filters and a couple Best Air filtersright now and cannot tell the difference between them when it comes to performance. The name brand True Air's keep their shape better, but for nine bucks, I'm not worried about the asthetics of the inside of my humidifier.

Hope this helps those who use these filters.

Protec WF2 Extended Life Replacement Humidifier Filter (Pack of 3) Review

Protec WF2 Extended Life Replacement Humidifier FilterI purchase these every year for my Vicks humidifier.I have spent way beyond what the machine itself cost me on filters. Each filter lasts about a month to 6 weeks before getting moldy and stops wicking the water.I only use the humidifier for about 4 months in the Winter, which a 3 pack of filters is good for.I would use it all year if I did not have to keep replacing the filters. If someone knows a better choice of longer lasting filters, please post.

Travel Ultrasonic Humidifier Review

Travel Ultrasonic HumidifierThis unit is the original travel/portable humidifier.I shopped around and looked at the several imitators, but decided to go with the Air-O-Swiss name/reputation that I know and love.

This unit is tiny, and comes with a power adapter with both US and European plugs and a soft cloth carry bag.

I use it at McMurdo Station, Antarctica where the average humidity is in the single digits. It puts out less water than my full-size Air-O-Swiss unit at home, but a remarkable amount for a unit this size.

The blue light that others have complained about is fairly bright - as most blue LEDs are - but it's no brighter than most night-lights, and hasn't bothered my sleep. The blue light switches to a red light when the water runs out... kind of a nice heads-up feature if you don't have the output set high enough to see the "steam" coming from the spout.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to make this purchase again, and I'd replace this unit with the same if needed (unless or until Air-O-Swiss comes out with their own new replacement/upgrade).There are a couple other copies that are less expensive, but I haven't tried them - I went with the quality/service that I trusted at the cost of the higher price tag.

Holmes HWF62PDQ-U Humidifier Filter Review

Holmes HWF62PDQ-U Humidifier FilterThe plastic housing for the replacement filter disintergrates when washed. When the filter dries, it becomes very hard. This is ineffective as the dial on the humidifier registers that this new replacement needs changing and this filter needs constant changing. The new extra replacement filters (2) that were purchased 6 weeks ago have almost doubled in price since that purchase. The humidifier should be sold with multiple filters and now becomes a bad investment. We do not recommend this purchase.

Sunpentown® SU - 1051 Mini - Humidifier Review

Sunpentown® SU - 1051 Mini - HumidifierI travel frequently and, while working on a job, my old travel humidifier kicked the bucket. After much internet searching, I found this nifty little device. First off, it's MUCH smaller than you think-- slightly larger than a large box of 250-ct matches. Insert a water bottle, plug it in & you're set. Easy to clean & carry with you, the thing I love most about it is that if it runs out of water, it stops on it's own. It puts out a large amount of cold humid air for it's stature, but unfortunately it struggled against the incredibly dry air in the Minneapolis hotel room where I was staying. My recommendation would be to run the humidifier all day while you're gone with the door closed to your room and see if that humidifies the space more effectively.

SPT SU-3750 Ultrasonic Penguin-Shaped Humidifier Review

SPT SU-3750 Ultrasonic Penguin-Shaped HumidifierI went looking for an affordable ultrasonic humidifier because I was tired of noisy fans and the other problems associated with evaporative machines. After a lot of research, I decided to try this one, partly because of its simplicity and partly because of pricing (i.e. not a disaster if it didn't work out).I was a little dubious about the small reservoir size, but it's not a problem at all.To keep a rather large room at ca. 35% in the dead of winter in MN (very dry subzero weather), one fill will last a bit over 24 hours, and of course longer than that in less extreme conditions. It's perfectly simple to fill and clean, and wonderfully quiet--just a steady hum that I barely notice, with occasional little glurps.
So far I've only seen a little white dust on the device itself, but not on nearby surfaces. The vapor seems to circulate best (i.e. up and out into the room) when it's placed well off the floor. On a 30" shelf, the vapor tended to flow downward, so I used a milk crate to raise it up a bit more, and that solved the problem. The only issue I've had with it so far was a fairly strong plastic/chemical smell at the beginning, but that's been diminishing with use. It's a great improvement over any of my previous humidifiers.

Graco Humidifier Replacement Filter for 4.0 Gallon Review

Graco Humidifier Replacement Filter for 4.0 GallonI cleaned the unit (Graco 4-gallon cool mist) every day and filled it with water run through a very good quality countertop filter.Even doing this, I went through two of these $11 filters per WEEK (TWENTY-FOUR TIMES as many filters as stated by the manufacturer!), and simply couldn't afford to spend nearly $90 a month (just in filters!) to run a humidifier. That is, putting it simply, absolutely insane.Design is faulty -- filtered water shouldn't trash a brand-new filter in less than four days.I don't know anyone who could afford $90 a month for humidifier filters.

Graco Humidifier Replacement filter for 1.5 Gallon Review

Graco Humidifier Replacement filter for 1.5 Gallon I purchased this filter for my Graco home humidifier.I regularly performed operational maintenance on my humidifier, including washing the filter.Despite the maintenance the filter slowly became discolored from the natural pollutants and minerals contained in my water. This Graco Filter helped solve my problem.

I carefully care for the filter. To avoid frequently replacing the filter,I use a procedure that can extend the life of the filter. When the filter forms a crust, I soak it for awhile in vinegar water (usually 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water). After soaking I carefully rinse the filter several times in fresh water.

The Graco humidifier that I use is an evaporation style machine. To work properly, the "filter" must be free of pollutants, as the machine adds moisture to the air by having a fan blow air through the sponge type filter (exactly like the "swamp coolers" so popular in arid climates).Clogs decrease effectiveness and add pollutants to the air in the room being used. Accordingly, in addition to carefully maintaining the filter, I addKAZ Humidifier Bacteriostatic Treatment to the reservoir to prevent the growth of bacterial agents. (KAZ Humidifier Bacteriostatic Treatment

When properly maintained, the Graco Humidifier Replacement filter is an excellent product.I recommend this filter for evaporation humidifiers.
