NOTE: the frog humidifier I bought is made by Crane. I noticed some rip offs that looks almost the same in stores and on Amazon. I can only speak for the humidifier I have, which has the word "crane" in red/orange on top of the adjustment knob.
I had this humidifier for 3 years and it works wonderfully (originally bought it cuz I was sick due to dry weather). Unless yours is clearly defective or motor is defective, it should work if you put everything together correctly
Pro:
-Quiet: it's about as loud as my computer.
-NO FILTER! There are optional filters but, I have used it for 3 yrs without filter, and do not see any reason to purchase the filter.
-Easy to clean: when I bought it, I clean it once every 2 or 3 weeks. Since I use normal tap water instead of purified water, there's build up and I have to clean it every week to keep it sanitary. How I clean it: Pour a little vinegar or bleach in the tank and in the water base. Shake the tank to to ensure even coating, let it soak, scrub it with a used toothbrush as needed and rinse throughly. You might want to be more diligent if it's for a baby
-It works: it's a cute, and it outputs mist. I dropped the water tank on the ceramic floor once. It cracked, so I put a piece of duct tape over it, and there's no leaking and no problem.
Con:
-it only outputs cold water.
-vapor collects under the eyes/cover on top of the water tank, so when you remove the tank to refill, there will be a few drops of water spilled. Otherwise there should be no spills, unless you didn't put on the parts correctly
-for small room: I live in a dorm room, and it works awesomely. If you are thinking of putting it in the living room or something, the mist might not travel as well.
If your's is new and it doesn't work:
-Do you have the water level measurement thing in? There's a white foam circlet and a little cap included, put the foam on the green stick and the cap on top to prevent foam from floating out of the stick, and water should come out. Or else the humidifier doesn't know how much water there are and won't work properly. I didn't realize this when I bought it and the humidifier didn't work without the foam thing and the cap in it.
-If it is your first time turning it on, it may take a few minutes before vapor comes out.
-PUT IT ON A HARD FLAT SURFACE. The fan is on the bottom, so if you put it on a carpet, the fan won't work as well and you may not get that much mist. If the surface is not flat, the water measurement thing might not work as well and you might get red light sometimes when there's nothing wrong.
-Surroundings are wet: you turned it on too high. The mist doesn't travel well for large rooms. I have it in my dorm room, and turn the amount to where I barely see the steam come out, and it works fine.
